The Achilles Carbon Management Module

The Achilles Carbon Management Module has been designed to provide an effective and efficient way for businesses to measure and monitor their carbon emissions and help make carbon management and emissions data sharing easier. The module is particularly important for helping organisations that wish to capture Scope 3 (indirect) emissions across their supply chain.

The module contains a set of questions that Achilles suppliers can complete to demonstrate their carbon management maturity and the steps they are taking to manage Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, helping to meet the increasing focus on emissions management and reduction across supply chains.

The module enables companies to show they are aware of the importance of reducing GHG emissions, demonstrate their awareness by sharing plans and progress and, importantly, enable buying organisations to build visibility of their Scope 3 carbon footprint.

Key Carbon Management Module Features

The Carbon Management Module makes getting started with carbon measurement and management easier for suppliers and provides buying organisations with a detailed view of the carbon maturity of their supplier base. Here is the key information that the Carbon Management Module captures:

1. GHG measurement

2. Third party verification/audit

3. Management System documentation

4. Energy Management e.g. ISO 500001

5. Carbon Management e.g. ISO 14064

6. Alignment to science-based targets

7. GHG disclosure/publication

8. Net Zero plan & offsetting

Achilles Carbon Calculator

Achilles understands that not all suppliers are at the same stage of their Carbon Management journey. The Achilles Carbon Calculator is a tool primarily intended for companies that are in the early stages of measuring their carbon footprint and either aren’t collecting GHG data yet or have been relying on excel spreadsheets to do the job and are now ready to adopt a more professional and efficient solution.

The Carbon Calculator uses a comprehensive set of questions to guide you through the process of inputting all the raw emissions data you need to capture, such as petrol use, electricity consumption and number of business miles travelled. These questions align to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This activity data is used to calculate carbon emissions for you using established and internationally recognised algorithms.

Greenhouse Gas Emission Factor (EF) x Activity Data = Greenhouse Gas Emissions

It’s increasingly important for businesses of all sizes to understand their emissions. Aside from the obvious importance of us all working to reduce emissions and play our part in getting to Net Zero, carbon emissions are also becoming an important factor in procurement decisions. Big businesses are under increasing pressure to capture their indirect “Scope 3” supply chain emissions to comply with regulations such as CSDDD and IFRS and need this information from their suppliers in order to do so.

Buyers also want this information so that they can make more informed procurement decisions and select suppliers with lower environmental footprints and/or that can show they are working to reduce emissions to help achieve their wider sustainability goals. To make that as easy as possible, the carbon data collected in the Carbon Calculator is automatically added to each company’s profile in MyAchilles and can also be easily exported for inclusion in your proposals, tenders and bidding processes.

Overall, the Achilles Carbon Calculator is there to help companies make a smooth and straightforward start to better carbon management and demonstrate a proactive approach towards sustainability best practices.

Achilles Carbon Reduce Programme

The Achilles Carbon Management Module is a helpful first step to carbon management. At any point, users can choose to upgrade to the Achilles Carbon Reduce (powered by Toitu) solution providing a formal and scientifically-based way to measure and reduce carbon emissions and the independently verified data required to comply with regulations and meet reporting and disclosure requirements. On average Carbon Reduce helps companies reduce their Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by an average of 50% within 5-6 years.
